Prof. Dr. Martin Doppelbauer was awarded the Thomas A. Edison Award of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in October 2021. Along with ISO and the ITU, the IEC is one of the three major international standards organizations operating worldwide, with its headquarters in Geneva. Mr. Doppelbauer has been working on standards in the field of industrial electric motors for more than 20 years. He has been convenor (chairman) of the IEC TC2 WG31 working group for 15 years, where the now well known IE efficiency classes for electric motors were developed. Since 2016, Mr. Doppelbauer has held the overall chairmanship of Technical Committee 2 (IEC TC2) "Rotating Machinery".
